To My One and Only

by perpetualflaneur

You can’t predict every step I make;

You can’t prevent the hits I’ll take;

You can, however, be there if need be

For someone to comfort me.

I’ve walked dark streets on my own

Faced and lived through what life has thrown.

All these I did alone

With the knowledge and wisdom you’ve shown.

And now as I tread through life,

Where good and bad are rife,

Rest assured that I’ll protect

Myself from this world’s neglect.

This breath you have given;

This life you built around in;

No amount of thanks will suffice,

My love and gratitude as your prize.
